The Houston Legal Assistants Association is the largest
legal assistant association in the State of Texas and is in the top five of the largest
metropolitan legal assistant associations in the United States. It is a non-profit
organization and has more than 975 members. HLAA was founded on August 30, 1978 to promote
the professional advancement of legal assistants in Houston. HLAA celebrates its 20th
Anniversary this year. Through its 20 years of professional service, HLAA has made
immeasurable progress of heightened standards for professionalism, which is recognized
statewide and nationwide.
HLAA has continued to strive for excellence in the legal
assistant profession through the implementation of minimum educational standards,
continuing legal education requirements and the creation of the Houston Professional Legal
Assistant designation - "HPLA".
HLAA was the first legal assistant association in the
State of Texas to undertake and successfully implement the CLE requirements since 1995.
HLAA also contributes to the community by participating in innumerable charitable
programs. HLAA promotes high standards in their profession, has established principles,
has networking resources and provides integrity and strength for its members.
